WALLMATE
OVERVIEW
Wallmate began as a university brief focused on addressing everyday clutter in small, shared kitchens, and was later extended into an AI-driven exploration of product context and validation. The project focused on shared kitchens in student housing and small apartments, where limited storage quickly leads to clutter. Given the high daily use of cutlery, the design prioritizes easy access, clear organization, and cleanliness within a compact, modern and wall-mounted form.
After developing the core concept, CAD, and initial renders, I used Google Gemini’s Nano Banana Pro image generation and editing model to place the design into realistic home environments, enabling rapid evaluation of scale, proportion, and wall integration. This AI-assisted approach significantly reduced the time required to produce contextual renders and supported faster, more informed iteration.

DESIGN PROCESS
After thoroughly analyzing the problem, I explored a wide range of forms and systems to organize cutlery, keeping key parameters in mind: ease of access, space efficiency, and separate compartments for organization. Feedback guided me toward the wall-mounted concept, which best addressed these needs. Using cardboard prototypes, I tested different forms, with each iteration providing valuable insights that ultimately led to the final design.
AI-ASSISTED WORKFLOW FOR PRODUCT CONTEXTUALIZATION
Tool: Google Gemini - Nano Banana Pro (image generation & editing model).
How It Was Used: After completing CAD models and initial product renders of Wallmate, Nano Banana Pro was used to insert the product into realistic home environments in minutes with high accuracy. Detailed prompts were written to precisely control product placement, scale, lighting conditions, and material finishes across multiple contexts.
Why It Was Useful: By replacing time-intensive rendering and photography staging, Nano Banana Pro reduced the time needed to generate contextual visuals, accelerated iteration, and enabled rapid evaluation of scale, proportion, and spatial fit across multiple kitchen environments.
